Extreme heat can cause body temperatures to soar, and that can cause heatstroke, exhaustion, dizziness, nausea, confusion, headache and even death. We have a cool zone right here in our park. The clubhouse is air-conditioned and we have a library there with books and comfortable chairs so you can stay awhile and relax.

🧑‍🚒 At our park disaster plan meeting, we agreed to have a fireman to come and talk about fire safety. We scheduled a meeting for Thursday, September the 10th at 5:30. Mark this date on your calendar so you don’t forget when it is.

Stay Safe

Extreme heat can cause body temperatures to soar, and that can cause heatstroke, exhaustion, dizziness, nausea, confusion, headache and even death. People who are particularly at risk are children, older adults, people with chronic medical conditions, someone who is pregnant, and outdoor workers.

Search for cool zones in your mobile home parks. In Mission View West our clubhouse is air-conditioned and we have a library where there are books and comfortable chairs.

Guidelines include but are not limited to these items:

Call 9-1-1 immediately. Signs of heatstroke include dizziness, nausea, confusion and headache.

Begin cooling the person right away. Move them into the shade; spray them with cool water and fan them.

If they are alert, place them in a cool shower and monitor their body temperatures.

DO NOT give them fluids; a person with heatstroke may not be able to swallow safely.

There is no single law that bans grilling entirely in Oceanside, but there are some bans with strict safety regulations. Grilling outside at a mobile home park is governed by a combination of state fire codes, local fire department guidelines, and some places there might be some individual park rules.    

Single-Family Backyards

If you are grilling in the backyard of a detached, single-family home, there are no special permit requirements. However, the Oceanside Fire Department and CAL FIRE enforce general outdoor safety parameters:  

• Combustible Clearance: Grills must be positioned well away from home siding, deck railings, fences, eaves, and overhanging tree branches.  
• Safe Coals Disposal: Coals must be left to cool completely inside the grill before being transferred to a secure, non-combustible metal container. Never put coals in plastic, paper, or wooden trash bins.

Meet Emily Gonzalez, OMHA’s supported candidate for Oceanside City Council. Learn about her priorities and how they would benefit mobilehome residents.

Hear Chair Penny Russell share an update on OMHA and Oceanside’s mobilehome parks, including upcoming rent increases and when they will take effect.

Mission View West was in an evacuation alert zone during the June 8 Airport fire, and another nearby fire followed two days later at Camp Pendleton. Hear how Penny Russell’s park, Laguna Vista, was prepared and evacuated when ordered, and join the discussion on strengthening Mission View West’s emergency plan.

Did you get a charge of $19 on your latest utility bill? It’s likely this charge is not a charge that can legitimately be charged to residents. What do you think should be done, if anything? Sarah Hermanns will tell us more.

The City Engineer told me that we will be getting a traffic signal at the intersection of 141 and 140 Douglas Drive. It is being funded by a private development group that is linked to the North Rivers Farms project that is off North River Road. He does not know exactly when the signal will go in, but does know the plans are complete. He said that they are waiting for one more component.

North River Farms

 Major Road and Traffic Projects Tied to North River Farms

These are some of the most significant off-site improvements required as part of the development approval.

1) College Boulevard Bridge Expansion

Widening from 4 lanes to 6 lanes

Includes improved pedestrian and bicycle facilities

Intended to increase traffic capacity and evacuation routes

Estimated cost: about $4.5 million 

Status: Construction has been underway in phases in recent years.

2) North River Road Widening

Expansion to more than double the existing width

One of the largest transportation changes tied to the project

Designed to accommodate increased traffic from the development 

This project often appears under:

Subdivision improvement plans

Traffic mitigation measures

3) Highway 76 Intersection Improvements

Improvements to multiple intersections along State Route 76

Coordination with Caltrans

Focus on traffic flow and safety 

Typical work includes:

Signal upgrades

Turn lanes

Traffic control changes

4) Vandegrift Boulevard / North River Road Turn Lane

New turning lane added at the intersection

Intended to reduce congestion and improve safety 

5) Douglas Bridge Expansion Contribution

Developer required to contribute funding toward expansion of the bridge

Supports regional traffic circulation

Today from Norma the park manager at Mission View West --

Cleared the following violations:

Vacant lot with overgrown vegetation – removed.
Clubhouse pool deck near steps – repaired.
Exhaust fan in women’s bathroom – installed.

Working on the following:

Getting estimates for tree cleanup and/or removal.
Scheduled to replace streetlight at space 25.
Repair 107 hole in brick wall.
