There is no single law that bans grilling entirely in Oceanside, but there are some bans with strict safety regulations. Grilling outside at a mobile home park is governed by a combination of state fire codes, local fire department guidelines, and some places there might be some individual park rules.
Single-Family Backyards
If you are grilling in the backyard of a detached, single-family home, there are no special permit requirements. However, the Oceanside Fire Department and CAL FIRE enforce general outdoor safety parameters:
- Combustible Clearance: Grills must be positioned well away from home siding, deck railings, fences, eaves, and overhanging tree branches.
- Safe Coals Disposal: Coals must be left to cool completely inside the grill before being transferred to a secure, non-combustible metal container. Never put coals in plastic, paper, or wooden trash bins.
